Influencer pricing
How much do influencers charge in South Africa?
South African influencers set their own rates, and the price of a post depends mostly on the creator's following and engagement, the platform and format, and how long you want to use the content. Fees rise steeply from nano to macro creators, and usage rights and exclusivity cost extra. On Flarr, creators publish their rate cards in rands so you can compare before you brief.
What sets an influencer's rate
- Audience size: nano (1k to 10k), micro (10k to 100k), mid-tier (100k to 500k), macro (500k to 1m) and mega (1m+) creators charge very differently.
- Engagement: views, comments and saves relative to followers. High engagement justifies a higher fee.
- Platform and format: a produced YouTube integration costs more than an Instagram story; a TikTok or Reel sits in between.
- Usage rights: using the content in your own ads or on your website, and for how long.
- Exclusivity: paying the creator not to work with competitors for a period.
- Niche: finance, tech and beauty creators often charge more because brands compete for them.
Common pricing models
- Per post or per video: the most common. Multi-post packages are usually discounted.
- Gifting: product in exchange for content, mostly with smaller creators.
- Affiliate or commission: a percentage of sales through the creator's code or link, sometimes on top of a smaller fee.
- Ambassadorship: a monthly retainer for regular content over several months.
How to budget a campaign
- Decide the goal and the result you would pay for, such as a cost per view, click or sale.
- Shortlist creators who fit, and collect their rate cards.
- Add usage rights, boosting spend and product costs on top of the fees.
- Spread the budget across several creators for a first campaign, then put more behind those who delivered.

Questions
How much do influencers charge per post in South Africa?
There is no standard rate. Each creator sets their own price based on their following, engagement, platform and the work involved, and prices rise steeply from nano to macro creators. The most reliable way to budget is to compare the rate cards of creators who fit your brief.
Why do two creators with the same follower count charge different rates?
Engagement, audience quality and demand. A creator whose videos reliably reach and convert a valuable audience, or who works in a niche brands compete for, can charge more than one with the same number of followers.
Do South African influencers work for free products?
Some smaller creators accept product (gifting) for content, especially for products they genuinely want. Larger creators charge a fee. Gifted posts still have to be disclosed as advertising.
What costs extra on top of the posting fee?
Usage rights (running the content in your ads or on your site), whitelisting or Spark Ads, exclusivity periods that stop the creator working with competitors, extra revisions, and travel or production costs.
